This is just to say that BookPage has a page up on Loving Sylvia Plath: A Reclamation in which they refer to Ted Hughes as Sylvia Plath’s abuser. Just, out there. Cut and dry. No, if you’ll pardon the swear, fucking around.
This might not seem like that big of a deal. But truly— this is not a radical feminist outlet. This is BookPage. A trade journal. And they just said it, clear as day. This feels huge to me, and also very quiet, like a storm inside me just finally blew out. And I wanted to share that with all of you.
Thank you for doing all this work to make this happen. It feels like a really big, important moment. ❤️
I've just reread "The Jailer". Far out. It was there in black and white for such a long time. The speaker talks of "the impossibility/ That being free" and her abuser's "armor of fakery". You've helped smash that armor, Emily. Wow. What an important moment. Congratulations!!
